Comment(by dsd):

 This raises the question of whether we want to support partitioned usb,
 unpartitioned usb, or both. And what happens if there are 2 USB disks
 plugged in, 1 of which has OS - is that something we want to support too?
 And how should this be prioritised w.r.t. other bugs...
