 Yep - confirmed. It does go away with viafb_accel=0. Magic.

 For anyone testing this later, the 2 paths used for the repro above are
 included in the OS and _always_ trigger the problem for me at the "s"
 character as marked above.

 It is probably related to the lenghts of the strings being pushed around
 so this test might be useful.
