 Ah, the caret was a bad choice - let's see:

  - prepare a long command line, for example

    ls /usr/share/sugar-presence-service/telepathy_plugin.py

  - then return to the start of the line and add a "prior" parameter to the
 command, for example (with "][" indicating the cursor position):

         ls /usr/lib/python/site-packages/s][ /usr/share/sugar-presence-
 service/telepathy_plugin.py
