 The fix for this is to remove the Modeline in /etc/X11/xorg.conf, so the
 monitor section looks like this.

 Section "Monitor"
         Identifier   "Monitor0"
         VendorName   "Monitor Vendor"
         ModelName    "Monitor Model"
