 While this answer may be factually correct, it does not solve the user's
 problem.  Must the "SoaS" tools have a dependency upon the latest kernel ?

 I see the same (SoaS-Beta iso conversion) problem on my Ubuntu 9.04
 desktop system (the "newest" that Ubuntu has released). I do not have a
 Fedora desktop system (which presumably has a newer kernel) -- and I am
 not about to scrap my working Ubuntu system and install Fedora instead.
