 Personally, I think that requiring a non-empty command line in the normal
 case is a sign of unaddressed problems.  Command line options should be
 overrides to select special cases, not assertions of the status quo.  The
 fact that the command line has gotten so long is an embarrassment.  It was
 already too long for XO-1; now it getting ridiculous.

 I could change the command line in the firmware, but I'm afraid that if I
 did, the chances of it getting fixed in the right place would drop
 precipitously.

 I believe that some other architectures have a default command line that
 can be configured into the kernel.  Is that option available for x86 yet?
