Comment:

 Tested on os55, while VT1 displayed insertion of a pen drive caused it to
 be mounted by Sugar, instead of failing the mount and allowing the VT1
 session user to mount it manually.

 I'm not so sure this is an improvement, but it does address the original
 problem.  Closing.  ;-)
