Comment(by wad):

 The first component I scoped (and froze) in debugging this was the VX855
 RTC crystal oscillator.  It is fine, even after being frozen.

 I know of no direct method of monitoring the EC clock.  By watching the
 SPI clock, perhaps ?

 Why didn't XO-1 have this problem ?
