Comment:

 Tested, os52, this appears to be fixed.

  * edit /etc/inittab to set default runlevel 3,
  * reboot,
  * once boot is finished, and boot animation has not yet been removed,
 suspend and resume once using the power button, and a text console will
 appear,
  * ''telinit 5'',
  * sugar appears,
  * frame key doesn't cause a hang.
