> one or two of these (in my mind "simple") operations will "freeze" for
more than two seconds, then continue.
Is it the response to keyboard characters that is delayed, or the return
of the shell prompt?
Can this freeze be avoided by typing "sync" first? If so, the freeze is
due to the slow SD write performance identified in another ticket. The
active writes prevent reads.
> In my mind I had thought of "garbage collection" -- but perhaps this
temporary freeze occurs because something happens to present the system
with a stream of interrupts.
Interrupts are counted; the kernel keeps the counters and displays them in
/proc/interrupts. Please reproduce this temporary freeze and identify
whether the interrupt counts are unusual compared to when the freeze does
not occur.
