This is very similar to bug #8834 and #8998 (activities fail to launch
when /etc/olpc-security is removed) but no changes have been made to /etc
 /olpc-security.

Launching an activity shows the opening sequence (the logo of the activity
is enlarged and flashes) but then the screen reverts back to the home
screen. The icon of the activity appears below the XO symbol but its name
is shown to be sugar-shell. Manually executing the activity script from
 the terminal also works.

Thankfully, this bug does not apply to the Terminal activity.

The system was running perfectly until a couple of days ago. Only
modifications: (1) attached a wireless mouse via USB and (2) changed
permissions on /home/olpc/Activities because the default build wouldn't
let my kid save his activities (did a chmod ugo+w /etc/olpc/Activities).

 Running Build 767, Sugar 0.82.1
