 It is most likely hardware. The clue was in ticket 6206, where a "G1G1
 user reports that he can only get SD cards to be detected by squeezing the
 screen in the area of the power switch".  I didn't have to do that, but I
 was able to get both cards I tried, a 256 MB SANDISK amd a 512MB PNY, both
 formated VFAT right out of the box, to work this afternoon.  Now I can't,
 but ticket 6206 points to a hardware problem.
