Yes, I still feel Journal should be treated an additional shell 'zoom'
view. It was one of my first impressions after using Sugar on an XO for a
few weeks, here's the image mock up I posted to the
Design/ActivityManagement Talk page way back in January.

'''Example mock-up of what the Journal could look like as part of the core
sugar shell UI rather than as a 'special' activity hanger on. The Journal
Search icon matches the XO keyboard layout, icon style, and colouring of
the other zoom views. The Journal is another core XO view and should not
be confused with the activity metaphor.'''
I still stand by this design idea, given we can't reprint the book/journal
icon on every physical keyboard (which is perhaps what would have been
best if this issue was caught prior to production). The design also means
that alt-tab switching can ignore the Journal view and still keep the UI
behaviour consistent (tabbing to Journal has never been the effect I've
wanted while trying to work in Sugar). Perhaps now that the Journal code
is being folded into the shell, this might finally make it onto someone's
radar.
