Comment:

 This will require SCIM to be installed in 8.2.1. Getting SCIM in for 8.2.1
 will be a significant challenge, since it will require replacing the
 current input method framework (which handles all our keyboard layouts at
 the moment).

 This requires significant effort (especially in testing, to ensure that
 there are no regressions). Moreover, all our existing keyboard layout data
 needs to be converted into a format which is understood by SCIM. I'm
 trying my best to automate this as much as as possible, but I have been
 only partially successful till now.

 One of my primary criteria of successfully having SCIM on the XO is that
 the user experience should not change. We have a very simple and elegant
 way of handling multiple keyboard layouts in a single physical keyboard,
 and I do not want that to change.

 By my estimate, development + integration + testing will take around three
 to four man months. I'm not sure if we can do this in the 8.2.1 timeframe.
