 After some buffer-management optimization to eliminate redundant reads of
 the USB key, I achieved the following save-nand times with my 1G Sandisk
 Cruzer Mini w 16KB cluster FAT:

 a) 2 GB NAND (experimental machine) with 439 MB occupied: 5 min 25 sec
 b) 1 GB NAND (normal XO) with 314 MB occupied: 3 min 23 sec.
