It got vandalized *again* after your comment. I reverted it, and added
some additional info about filesystem formats and about how to determine
free space.
I'm working on performance and stability improvments for OFW's ext2
filesystem support, so maybe ext2 will become usable in an upcoming OFW
release. The current state is that I've achieved 16-minute save times
with an ext2 filesystem with 4K bsize. bsize=1K takes twice as long.
It's possible that large bsize values would give similar performance to
large-cluster FAT. (FAT filesystems on large USB storage devices usually
have large clusters; for FAT16, the cluster size must be 16K to use the
entire 1GB.)
