 i just did a matrix of testing-- it's pretty clearly a debxo issue.  when
 i started, the machine with the new touchpad was running a copy of my EC
 code, which is pretty different than the mainstream, so there's extra data
 here for that case.

 (just because it's a debxo issue doesn't mean we shouldn't try
 to get to the root cause.)
