 Removing the guard would be good.  I don't remember the reasoning for
 guarding it; it may have something to do with the debuggability itself,
 but shouldn't matter.

 In a different conversation, a repeat tile with huge number may freeze the
 image.  But Alt-. should work in that case, too.  Unfortunately, the
 combination is wired in the VM so using something like ESC-key requires a
 VM change.
