 I have been trying to replace this problem. I have a bash script which
 switches between two access points repeatedly, waiting until the OLPC has
 associated to one to switch to the other.

 I thought that maybe high system load could be a factor in causing this
 condition. So I have been using a program called "stress," available at
 http://weather.ou.edu/~apw/projects/stress/, to generate various different
 kinds of load.

 However, so far, I have not seen any failures.

 The main difference between my test setup and the one described in this
 bug is probably that I am not running the GUI. Also, the brands of AP that
 I am using are different; I do not have a Buffalo or Netgear AP to use.

 I'm going to try associating through the GUI to see if that works as well.
