 I don't know why the system used to fail 5 out of 6 times.  If the
 filesystem on the removable device is ext3, I suppose it's possible that
 the journal was dirty; that tends to confuse OFW.  In general, I don't
 recommend ext3 for FLASH-based media like USB sticks and SD, but if you
 really want to use it, you can isolate OFW from it by putting /boot in a
 separate partition with ext2 or even FAT.
