Comment:

OK, but I would argue that we're currently at the other wrong extreme in
many cases. Currently, when I join a shared activity, the activity pops
up and indicates that it is not shared. It takes up to 10 seconds or more
before the "Share With" box switches to Neighborhood and goes gray.
During this period, it is entirely unclear whether sharing has succeeded,
and I suspect that if the user begins interacting with the program
 immediately, the results are ill-defined.

I don't know why sharing takes so long, and I regard that as a bug in
itself, but we should be careful not to present the user with a misleading
view in the interest of speed.
