 Hmm, we might have a tad bit more work to do. The test firmware still
 gives me this message on another card, however, typing 'boot' immediately
 after it fails works fine.

 The original (16GB) card still works fine. Also, it appears other cards
 are having identical symptoms however different failure modes since this
 fix doesn't fix it for them.
