 OK, got it working.

 Here is my evince build: http://dev.laptop.org/~dsd/sugar-evince/ (RPMs +
 src)

 git tree at dev.laptop.org/users/dsd/sugar-evince.git

 Read activity needs patching as the evince API changed. I will attach a
 patch below. There are 2 consequences: we break compatibility with older
 sugar-evince versions (avoidable if we don't mind making a small mess in
 the code), and the find-previous/find-next buttons no longer get greyed
 out when you read the beginning/end of the document (the search wraps
 automatically) -- is this functionality important?

 If these components look acceptable then I'm ready to build sugar-evince
 in koji ASAP, provided that someone can take care of doing a new Read
 release at approximately the same time.
