Comment:

 The new Journal designs handle this case by offering checkboxes for
 creating selections of multiple entries at once, which can then be tagged,
 deleted or bundled en masse (wiki.laptop.org/go/Designs/Journal).  In the
 short term, the latest version of the Journal is slightly closer to
 offering this functionality, since the objects (activities, people) shown
 in the Journal all have palettes, which offer options, including erase,
 allowing one to delete items from the list view more directly.
