 I believe needed patches is already applied in official Debian package in
 unstable.

 If you do not want to rebuild yourself, use either amd64 or i386 and trust
 my unofficial packages, you can add the following t /etc/apt/sources.lst
 for backports to stable Debian:

 deb http://debian.jones.dk/ etch jabber
