Yup, me too!
Let me constrain the scope a bit for the short term, and raise the
questions I think we need to answer up front to get this started. In
terms of scope, I think that we should add a photo(/avatar), age/birthday,
and an "about me" box for starters. The "about me" box can cover the
other missing fields until we get more specific.
The main concern I have is how we obtain the relevant data. One place it
clearly makes sense to ask for such bio info is upon first boot. At the
moment, we request nothing but the username to make the process as simple
as possible. I could see (in fact, it is in the design mockups) adding a
"take a photo" step to the boot process, since it doesn't require too much
additional effort on the users part (such as knowing/being able to type
phone number, address, or even having a phone in the first place.)
Once we have the data (or even if we don't get it at startup), how do we
change it? The obvious answer seems to be in the "about me" section of
the control panel. I would be more comfortable adding additional fields
such as email, phone, etc. to the control panel section where they can be
accessed on demand, instead of requiring them in the initialization.
So, there are 3 parts that need to be updated to make this happen:
1. Add photo step to initialization. (#3297)
2. Add a profile section to the "About me" module of the control panel.
3. Add support to the presence service for exposing the photo and other
relevant bio info. (#2738)
