Comment:

 Slow Frame retraction is certainly ugly.  Of course, it's possible that
 we'll have basic compositing come 9.1.0 anyway, and this will be obsolete.
 Short of compositing, however, it seems that this is worth at least
 investigating in full for 9.1.0.
