Comment:

 This got "interesting" in 2.6.25-20080513.3.olpc.a1fcb5b7b424e9f (master
 branch).
 Bug's still there, but the 'cat /dev/null' command takes 30s to complete
 (!).  Must have triggered a garbage collection?  No messages on console or
 in dmesg; 84M free on the filesystem.

 So, in summary, this may (or may not) have been fixed upstream, but it's
 still definitely present in the OLPC kernels.
