 Hmmm,

 For what it's worth, when I see this problem I have a single WRT54GX2
 router running open w/broadcast SSID, a single ThinkPad laptop (either T43
 w/Intel 2915 or T61 w/Intel 4965), and a single XO.  If the XO is allowed
 to associate, the router becomes invisible to the ThinkPad.  I don't
 actually know the AP's status at that point.  The XO seems to be
 associated and the networking files look appropriate, but the XO can't
 ping the router or reach the internet.

 I tried to sniff the situation (as reported earlier) but since I'm not
 familiar w/kismet I may not have accomplished anything:
