 cool uses for midi controllers as general input devices to control
 programs.  Having lots of sliders, buttons, and pads (as well as piano
 keys) benefit all sorts of applications, not just musical ones.

 Yeah, it would be great to have this possibility in some of the
 programming activities.  Think about some of the ant, turtle, or flocking
 types of algorithms with dials on a midi device set to the various
 parameters.  Course, I don't know if that would make it more or less
 obvious as a direct control of something on screen, but it could make kids
 in the developed world a little more intuitive about software being
 controlled by hardware and vice versa.
