 Trying to debug network issues without preinstalled network tools becomes
 a very frustrating chicken/egg problem. Several of us on the support gang
 would *love* a script (or button on the appropriate troubleshooting-
 related activity. A Terminal.xo tab?) like this that goes one step farther
 by actively trying to see where connectivity dies with a mix of ping,
 traceroute and such. I imagine a series of OK/FAIL tests:

 Connected to AP? Which?
 Has valid IP address or DHCP lease?
 Can ping gateway?
 Can connect to school server?
 Can connect to jabber server?
 Can connect/ over port 80 to one or more of {some list of reliable
 internet servers}? This would be useful to reveal firewall or non-icmp
 complications.
