Comment(by ixo):

 There's been quite a discussion on the support-gang email list about this
 topic (forcing updates).
 Seems like a real no-win-no-win situation.

 So I propose several things, to help alleviate the stress on support
 staff..
 * Send out email to all purchasers of XO Laptops, giving them warning of
 the pending update release.
 * Ask for volunteers to submit their serial number to some sort of webpage
 for a 'controlled' auto-update, (deadline 6 days before the general
 release)
   * which will send the information to the database, requesting they be
 'next in line' for the update.
 * Just see what the fallout will be.
 * Adjust appropiately...
 * Then do auto-grades in various groups, per 4 to 7 days, learn and adjust
 appropriately
   * 1,000 , then 10,000 , then 20,000, then 40,000, then all the rest.
