 The icon used to show the detailed view of a journal entry is just like a
 "play" media icon. Instinctively, people will assume it is for starting
 something, perhaps even the entry itself.

 Eben suggests a ... as a means to tell there is more about the entry. I
 suggested a bunch of others, but like eben says, they should be mocked up
 and tested. We wouldn't want too much visual complexity in there right?
