 This Ticket was split off from Ticket #8006 (backlight switches off for no
 good reason) because we thought there were 2 separate bugs. But maybe both
 involve some weirdness in the EC ?   They seem to be somewhat correlated,
 I observed both bugs in the same sessions, but never since.  I have a User
 perspective and know nearly nothing about what is under the hood.
