Comment:

 I also always experienced this problem.

 olpc-update never worked for me, until I performed:

 sudo ifconfig eth0 mtu 1492

 This seems to be a workaround not a fix, it appears to be a valid bug. I
 can provide any information (tcpdump/whatever) to help debug this. my
 olpc-update version is 2.4.
