Comment(by cscott):

 It would be nice if the message mentioned "connect to the network and
 then...", since the current way the control panel works is very unfriendly
 to the mesh view (trac #7642).

 The existing alert mechanism is invoked in the patch for #6136; that may
 be worth looking at.

 If you click 'Later', should it ask you again next time you boot?  If not,
 then the button should probably be labelled "No thanks" or some such.

 Finally, I'd like to see the message mention "the software updates control
 panel" so that people who elect *not* to do this right away (or try to,
 and have to quit the control panel to connect to their network) know how
 to get back to it.

 (Walter, your bug is #7642, which may be independent.  Open another bug
 for "School Server should cache activity updates", which is a complete
 different issue.)
