 I mentoned this to dsaxena yesterday but I'm adding it to the ticket.

 I have new EC firmware that speeds up the EC command processing by a
 minimum of 3x and normally by about 10x.  You can test it from

 http://dev.laptop.org/~rsmith/q2089.rom

 If this helps to solve the issue then I'll add it into the the firmware
 and do an E13 release.

 Whats our audio frame size?  If its >= 512 bytes then a single frame of
 audio should be longer than most of the EC command processing duration.
