 I'm going to close this, as a duplcate of #6885.

 The initial conditions are different -- # 6880 describes the situation
 when Sugar has been initially started, whereas # 6885 describes the
 situation when Sugar has been re-started, but it looks like the problems
 that I am encountering are the same.

 [When I wrote # 6880, I was looking only at 'eth0' (which was not
 connected to the wired ethernet).  But upon reproducing the problem, I
 find that there *is* a connection to the internet -- through 'eth1'
 instead of through 'eth0' (which is what I was used to).  That means the
 initial # 6880 'summary description' was incorrect -- but it still leaves
 me with the "am not connecting to the jabber server" problem best
 described in # 6885.
