 .wav files linked from web sites cause an error dialog to appear and do
 not play.

 The error says: The totem plugin could not startup. The audio output is in
 use by another application.

 This was reported by a G1G1 user on
 http://en.forum.laptop.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=152924

 I get the same error (running update1-703) and am attaching log files.
