Comment:

 Today I changed the XO for several hours (charge light was orange for at
 least an hour before it went green; XO was rather warm during charge).
 Then disconnected AC, and XO's power light was still on although screen
 off.  Holding down power for 4 seconds made the light go off.  Then I
 switched on at let it run on battery, and so far it's been running for 100
 minutes (mostly idle) and is still going strong.  That's a big improvement
 on the "few seconds to few minutes" runtime it was giving me before, so I
 believe the upgrade solved the problem and I'm closing the ticket.  I'll
 re-open it if I get any more battery problems.
