 Booting from USB / SD gives me heartburn.

 Perhaps we should think of the bit as "check bootfw at next boot".  If we
 always boot from the same source, then the reboot will catch the new
 bootfw, wherever we put it.

 I could also support the "always check for new firmware on USB / SD",
 because I'm less concerned about boot speed for unusual setups.  How much
 time are we talking about?
