Comment(by HoboPrimate):

 Hope you don't mind that I minimally reworked the parts of eben's original
 report that I didn't see done in build 581. They are all about a single
 network icon on the Home view (the one to which the laptop is connected
 to):

  1. The network icon should appear in your own XO colors if you are
 directly connected to an infrastructure;
  2. When directly connected to infrastructure, its secondary rollover
 should indicate wireless strength via a meter;
  3. Another option to add to the secondary rollover could be "Make
 preferred" so that it is chosen over others stored within network manager
 when multiple are available at once.
  4. When the network connected to is a mesh portal, the network icon
 should also have a primary rollover which reveals the name of the
 individual acting as the portal beneath that.

 These 2 I can't test:

  5. When there are several XOs acting as a mesh portal for the same access
 point, the XO who's colors are used are largely arbitrary.
  6. But it would be great if, when the XO who's colors are used leaves the
 mesh or disconnects from the access point, a new set of colors should be
 chosen from the remaining mesh portals.
