Comment(by wad):

 I favor the mechanical problem hypothesis.   Please disassemble and
 recheck the connections on top of the battery compartment for corrosion or
 loose connection.

 The EC reset could be a duplicate of #4466, but in that case there was no
 question that the power was good.
