Comment:

After doing some research into the subject, I discovered that there is a
"special mode" of sorts that can be entered when threshold is set to 0.
 More details here: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3885

In short, I propose the following as a default mouse setting: '''xset m
 7/4 0'''

I've tested this out and it seems to work really nicely on the laptops,
offering pixel precision when desired while allowing one to easily
navigate from one side of the screen to the other with a single quick
swipe of the finger. Really, anything in the [1.6, 2] range for
acceleration works, so try out 16/10, 17/10, 18/10 etc. Most importantly,
once we have a control panel, we'll just want a single slider to adjust
this curve between [1.5, 2] (with 1.75 - the mean - being the default).
