 Eben, my growling is that we're beyond feature freeze for 1.0.  I'm
 unhappy to find that stuff like this is still changing at this date.  So
 "improving" this now, has introduced another bug.

 This doesn't mean we can't/won't fix it, but that changes like this should
 wait for a 1.1 release unless on the short list of features in the 1.0
 roadmap (some of which will likely also get pushed to 1.1).
