Comment:

I wonder: we are already customizing the software based on the
distribution, right? Would it not be possible to choose a fixed name for
the bitmaps (eg. "no_lease.bmp" and "stolen.bmp"), the contents of which
was determined at "distribution-time", and not at runtime, such that OFW
didn't need to jump through hoops to perform localization while
eliminating the need for a large number of languages? (I assume some
locales may still require two or three languages even using this method,
but at least they would be well targeted.)

In other news, here are the automatic translations I obtained. Could the
polylingual check these out for accuracy, correctness and succinctness?

English: Activation lease not found, Laptop reported stolen
Spanish: Arriendo de la activación no encontrado, Computadora portátil
 señalada robada
Portuguese: Aluguer da ativação não encontrado, Laptop relatado roubado
French: Bail de lancement non trouvé, Ordinateur portatif enregistré volé
