 The only way I can currently make changes to a configuration key from two
 different processes is to listen with inotify on a configuration file (!).
 This is going to come up with the registration UI, for example. Also it's
 going to block #3239.

 I'm not sure what are problems with DBus Gconf and if we can fix them
 easily, but clearly we need a working configuration system on the builds
 as soon as we can.
