reboot fixed it

 2. Should be "Inserted USB key on Vertical slot on the right side of the
 XO"
  7. Went into command line, and tared .sugar . Insterted usb key, and as
 root copied .dotsugar and /var/log/messages to it
  8. Restarted Sugar (Ctrl+alt+erase)
  9. Journal now shows entries.
  10. Clicked on USB key. .dotsugar is there, but no messages fille.
  11. Entered the detailed view of a file, then back, and messages file is
 there
