 The correct fix in if_usb_suspend() for the problem mentioned is probably:

 netif_device_detach(mesh/eth)
 usb_kill_urb(tx/rx)
 prepare_and_send_command(SLEEP_CFG/SLEEP_ACTIVATE)
 usb_kill_urb(tx/rx)
