Comment:

 You are right. Ship.2 is much of what was/is planned for Update.1.

 The problem is we were caught between several rocks and a *very* hard
 place. Both wireless driver problems and the unexpected LazyWDS problem
 (not our fault, but definitely our problem) have required us to do an
 update we did not plan on in advance. The reality of G1G1 dates
 (immovable, with Christmas set in stone), and the LazyWDS issue meant we
 would have been irresponsible to not update the systems before arrival.
 The possible severity of the LazyWDS problem only became clear over the
 Thanksgiving holidays, when another instance of it came to light.

 Essentially, we ran out of time to do safely back-port to the 623 base;
 fixes for the wireless driver and changes for the firmware for LazyWDS
 came together really only in the last 10 days (in the case for the
 firmware, in the last 48 hours).

 We wish we had time to take your advice... We're not happy campers....
 Haven't been for a week.

 The Christmas date can't move. Physical goods are different that
 software...
